Rolls-Royce delivers Damen’s 1000th azimuth thruster
Before the end of 2016, Rolls-Royce will deliver Damen’s 1000th azimuth thruster, in what marks a milestone in a relationship that spans more than 30 years.
Two Rolls-Royce US 255 FP azimuth thrusters – the 1000th and 1001th to be delivered – will be installed on Damen ASD Tugs 2913. Damen’s first ASD Tug design with a Rolls-Royce US azimuth thruster was delivered in 1993 but the relationship between Rolls-Royce and Damen goes much further back.
Ronald Lindeman, Rolls-Royce Marine Head of Sales, Central Europe West, said:
In 1983, before its acquisition by Rolls-Royce, Rauma-based Aquamaster supplied the first retractable thruster for an anchor handling tug – the Damen Dragon Fly.
Then in 2002, the ASD Tug 2810 was introduced and it is one of the world’s most popular tug designs today. More than 420 Rolls-Royce azimuth thrusters have been delivered to this series.
